LouwersHanique Transforms HF Waste Into Clean Water
LouwersHanique is committed to sustainable business practices. This year, we took an important step in our environmental efforts with the installation of a new hydrofluoric acid (HF) neutralization system. HF is highly toxic and must be handled carefully.
Previously, our processes generated about 12,000 liters of HF waste per year, all treated as hazardous chemical waste. With the new neutralization system, this HF waste is converted into clean water and just a few kilograms of non-dangerous sludge. The water is safely discharged into the municipal sewer system in accordance with environmental regulations, and the remaining solids are responsibly disposed of.
The new system reduces our chemical waste and requires fewer transport trips of hazardous materials, which lowers our environmental impact and enhances safety for our employees and waste handlers.
This investment also brings significant financial benefits, saving €35,000 per year on waste disposal costs. With a payback time of approximately one year, it is both environmentally and economically responsible.
Our sustainability efforts continue with a new project to apply vacuum evaporation for coolant. This method can reduce the amount of cooling water released by up to 90%. Scheduled for next year, the project is expected to provide substantial environmental and operational advantages.
The success of these projects relies on the engagement of our employees. Through teamwork and clear communication between management and staff, we foster strong support for each initiative and ensure smooth implementation.
These developments demonstrate our ongoing focus on sustainability and careful use of resources. We will continue to implement solutions that make our operations cleaner, safer, and more efficient, while reducing our environmental impact.
